This course, taught in the 1997-98 spring semester by Dr. Robert McGinn of Stanford University's Science, Technology and Society Program, seeks to enhance students' abilities to identify and critically analyze ethical, human value, and philosophical issues of the sorts that arise in or underlie contemporary civil engineering practice, whether in the environmental/water, structural, or construction areas. The syllabus includes a list of required readings for the course, a calendar of topics and readings, and a brief description of major class assignments.
