AbstractThe article reports that computer-security researcher Karsten Nohl has found a vulnerability in the algorithm used to prevent eavesdropping in most mobile telephone standard in Berlin, Germany. It suggests that the discovery would make it easy for anyone to listen in on mobile telephone calls. It adds that the breakthrough highlighted the need to improve the security of the systems. It argues that the industry should engage in a wide-ranging discussion of the ethics of its work.
