This article discusses some of the ethical issues that come up as part of the competition to publish research in the life sciences. The author looks at the increasingly collaborative nature of science, and discusses some ways in which researchers could seek to minimize some of these ethical conflicts, including forming partnerships with native speakers to help with writing and editing a paper, working within the collaborative group to determine authorship criteria, and the need to develop more global guidelines.
