This article discusses the ethical issues that can arise within scientific research, especially in collaborative projects. The authors discuss how the environment and management of the research group can give rise to either trust or mistrust among scientists, and discusses these kinds of groups can be managed so power is less likely to be misused, mentors can assist graduate students in furthering their careers, and better collaborative relationships can be forged. The article ends with a series of case studies that highlight the kinds of ethical issues that often arise in scientific research.
