Online tutorials and publications:
Human Participant Protection Education for Research Teams an online tutorial developed by the U.S. National Cancer Institute to educate sceintists, statisticians, and research assistants on the rights and welfareof human research participants.
On Being A Scientist- Responsible Conduct in Research. The full-text of the National Academy of Science's booklet.
OpenSeminar on Research Ethics This is an excellent collection of readings, powerpoints, and other resources compliled by instructors of research ethics. Developed by North Carolina Stuate University, OpenSeminar is a unique courseware platform allows instructors to build an expert-maintained repository or database of links to online information that is openly available on the Internet. The Research Ethics site is a collaborative effort of inviduals from universities accross the country, headed by Gary Comstock of North Carolina State University.
Research Ethics-Ethics in Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine. A introductory paper on the ethics of conducting researching on human subjects.
Research Ethics Blog - by Nancy Walton and Chris McDonald. Focuses on ethical issues surrounding the participation of human subjects in research.
Research Ethics Modules -North Carolina State University. A series of full text modules in which each module covers a separate issue in research ethics. Includes essays, case studies and references. All modules downloadable in pdf format.
Transition to Sustainability in the 21st Century: The Contribution of Science and Technology. - Statement made at the end of the the third international meeting of the world's scientific academies, acting through the InterAcademy Panel on International Issues (IAP) in May 2000. At the conclusion of the conference, the academies issued a collective statement that speaks to the specific responsibilities of the scientific, engineering, and medical communities in facilitating the transition to global sustainability over the next 50 years.
Research Ethics Centers:
Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research-seeks to create and promote ethical standards in the conduct of research. Site includes links to PRIM&R publications and a helpful collection of resources.
Responsible Conduct of Research Education Consortium- seeks to provide leadership to the research community to promote the education in the responsible conduct of research.
Research Ethics Program -University of California, San Diego. The Department has developed a very nice resources page divided by topic.
UCSF Office of Research Administration-promoting ethical use of test subjects and integrity in research.
