The Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions promotes innovative teaching. Our faculty teaches professional ethics courses at IIT in the areas of architecture, business, engineering, and industrial culture and assists faculty at other universities to prepare for teaching professional ethics and to develop courses and programs.
Ethics Across The Curriculum
CSEP's Ethics Across the Curriculum project, supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, prepares instructors to integrate ethics in ordinary courses. The project included workshops for IIT faculty, professional society representatives concerned with continuing education, and faculty from other institutions. Much of the material presented in the workshops as well as activities developed by workshop particiates are available online.
Created at IIT in 1993, the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB) combines the excitement and fun of a competitive tournament with a valuable educational experience for undergraduate students. Here you can find out more about IIT's Ethics Bowl team and a full description of the rules and educational significance of the Ethics Bowl.
Ethics in IPROS
Beginning in Spring 2010, the Center has worked closely with IIT’s IPRO program to develop a series of ethics modules that help students address the many ethical questions that arise in their course of research. This includes issues of intellectual property and privacy, working with project sponsors and local communities, and issues of product safety, transparency, and how to effectively work in multidisciplinary groups.
