AbstractThis article discusses how the case study of how the U.S. Public Health Service conducted sexually transmitted disease research in Guatemala from 1946-1948 cam be an excellent teaching tool for ethics education. The article describes how to use information from the report "Ethically Impossible: STD Research in Guatemala from 1946-1948" to teach students about aspects of contemporary research as well as the complexities of conducting an ethics assessment.
