AbstractDiscusses a stud7 funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health from 1946-1948 where vulnerable populations in Guatemala (prison inmates, mentally incapacitated patients, sex workers and soldiers) were intentionally = exposed to sexually transmitted infections. Some of these individuals received treatment, some only partial treatment. The article discusses the ethical violations of this case, and safeguards that are now in place to protect from this kind of study happening now or in the future.
