| Abstract | This case study, explores some of cultural issues that can arise when providing counseling services to individuals. In this case, a 14 year old boy whose mother is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, is referred to a counselor by his probation officer after he has been in and out of juvenile detention because of some petty drug charges. Due to a language barrier, the inability of the counselor to gain the trust of her patient, and numerous misunderstandings, the sessions of talk therapy do not go as well as they might have. |
