AbstractThis is a model lesson plan for instructors who are interested in integrating ethics into the middle or high school level science classes. The local water company of the small town of Plainville has found a high level of pollution from a local automotive factory has been leaking into the groundwater. The company, the largest employer in the town, threatens to leave if they are hit with large lawsuits. Homeowners whose drinking water has been polluted are also threatening to sue. Discussion of the civic responsibilities of scientists and the value implications of scientific consulting/advising.
