AbstractDiscusses the history of housing for Native Americans from the Great Plains area ranging from the tipi, log houses, to public housing. In some cases, designs for public housing and community buildings for the Cheyenne has unwittingly hastened the breakdown of traditional culture. The article ends with an example of sympathetic American Indian architecture and discusses why these designs were a success.
