Abstract

The article comments on the lessons that can be learned from the South Korean human embryonic stem cell fraud. The scandal involved Seoul University investigator Woo Suk Hwang and 24 co-authors who published what appeared to be a groundbreaking paper in "Science." They claimed to have established 11 embryonic stem cell lines containing nuclear DNA from somatic cells of research subjects. The research team published another paper in which they claimed to have established one cell line with the nuclear DNA from a research subject.
