Abstract

The article suggests that a single-payer health insurance, combined with competitive private delivery, would be the most cost-effective way of achieving the major goals of health care reform in the U.S. It describes the state of the country's health care system. It outlines the four goals of health care reform. It argues that a single-payer system of national health insurance is the most morally defensible model for health care reform. It also examines the various reform proposals advanced by some Democratic presidential candidates in the country, such as that of Senators Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.
