AbstractThe article examines the role of patients' age, cognition, educational attainment and literacy level on their comprehension of informed consent and privacy information as required under the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act in U.S. The subjects of this study are participants in a randomized controlled trial to improve medication adherence, carried out in a teaching hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
