AbstractThis article looks at the non-financial conflicts of interest that can arise in supervisor--student relations, ranging from standard graduate supervision through to dual relationships sometimes found in research with commercial potential.The article concludes by providing a series of recommendations for how to handle these kinds of conflicts of interest both for individual supervisors, and for institutions and policy-makers.
