Abstract

The article presents a Web-based survey conducted by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) on the agency's strict new work ethic rules. The new rules were imposed in August 2005. The rules ban the NIH employees from receiving large consulting fees from companies. The survey examined the views of the institute's former scientists on the new rules. Some scientists have stated that the new rules have disturbed the recruitment process as many senior positions at the U.S. National Cancer Institute have not been filled for many years.
