AbstractThe authors discuss the problems surrounding the distribution of credit for joint activities, and standards for how to allocate this credit. The authors developed a questionaire focuing on joint authorship and related ethical concerns, and administered to to business faculty members of universities around the United States who are also members of professional associations in their field. The authors found that the majority of respondents refused to include noncontributing authors on a jointly written paper, but that opinions varied as to what types of contributions would be significant enough to include a colleague as a joint author.
