AbstractA device known as the ultrasonic teen deterrent offers the police and businesses an effective way to disperse groups of young people. It emits a high pitch sound that is only audible to those under the age of 25. Teens hearing this sound usually find it annoying and disperse within 8 to 10 minutes. Some argue that this device helps perpetrate unfair age discrimination, others who have bought the device say that it can help reduce theft and vandalism.
