AbstractThe increased demand for corn-based ethanol in the United States has lead to a rise in the global prices for corn. This price has had the devastating effect of inflating food prices for the poor, and as growing corn requires a massive amount of fuel, pesticides, fertilizer, and causes erosion of the soil, it also has a huge environmental effect. Some question if these drawbacks makes this type of biofuel an effective environmental alternative to satisfy the world demand for fuel.
