| Abstract | The author gives a detailed account of the Baltimore Case, a decade-long dispute that centered around allegations of misconduct by a graduate student who was unable to reproduce the published results of an experiment done by Dr. Imanishi-Kari. As the investigation went forward, all co-authors of the paper - including the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Davis Baltimore-became embroiled in the negative publicity raised by the case. The Baltimore Case raises a large number of questions the handling of research data, the responsibilities of co-authors, and looks at the complex relationship between politics and science. |
