| Abstract | Animal Subjects in Research presents an overview of research integrity as it relates to working with animal subjects. The Introduction will focus on major ideas in the current philosophic discussion, albeit in summary fashion. We link directly to an online course developed by Rick Fish covering a wide range of topics, including a discussion of ethics as well as a separate tutorial on models. We then focus on the regulations and guidelines, both at the national and local level as well as describing and linking to the training requirements at NC State. We present a Case Study from The Association for Practical and Professional Ethics. We consider the challenges of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and ask what its involvement with and responsibility to the larger community might be. In the Resources section, you will find a sampling of articles, books and websites. |
