AbstractThis is one of a series of nine scenarios developed by Michael Loui and C. K. Gunsalus, which asks students to act out a case study looking at the ethical issues raised with human participants in research. This file, in pdf format, includes instructions for use and discussion guidelines, general principles that apply to human subjects research, a summary, resources, and handouts to be given to various participants. The case study involves a discussion between a professor and his student who is doing a number of interviews for a research project of a friend of his advisor. The Institutional Review Board is being very slow about approving the wording for the informed consent form, and the student would like to convince his advisor that he should do some interviews "quietly" while waiting for the IRB's approval, as he is extremely pressed for time.
