AbstractEmotient is one brand of facial-emotion analytics software which monitors an individual's real-time reactions to what is happening around them. This software can be used to monitor students' reactions to what is happening in the classroom, customers' reactions to products, check out job applicants, or to monitor workers. Paul Eckman, a psychologist and a pioneer in facial-emotion analysis, as well as other privacy advocates, worry about the use of these artificial intelligence methods on people without their consent and about the development of databases of facial expressions, and associated emotions, especially when tied to specific individuals.
