AbstractCriminal investigators often appeal to the public for help in solving cases, and this can pose a problem when using social media. During the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, members of the public conducted their own investigation on, concocting theories from compiled photos and videos and pointing fingers at the wrong people.
