Abstract

The author of this paper describes an infusion model of ethics education for engineering students used at Manhattan College. Religion classes, which are required for all students to take, help give students become comfortable talking about moral issues and helps them gain anappreciation of the dignity of other people and other beliefs, as well as an appreciation of
diversity. These skills and ideas are carried over into other professional courses taken in the students' academic career, including ethics courses. After contrasting this model with four other, more common approaches, the author shows how the infusion method can be used in collaboration with these other, more traditional approaches and how its differing approach can enrich students' understanding of the ethical issues inherent in everyday engineering practice.
