AbstractA operations supervisor at a city water treatment plant blows the whistle on three high-level city employees for tampering with samples that were to be tested for compliance with biochemical oxygen demand standards for discharging wastewater into the local river, and for using high pressure hoses to discharge sewage from tanks directly into the river. The case documents the political fallout that occurs because of this, and asks students to look at the water samples to see if the plant was operating in accordance with EPA regulations. Includes numerical problems.
