AbstractHelen, a professor of cell biology, found herself mentoring a young woman named Julie who has had some problems completing her graduate work and feels stuck in her role as lab technician. One research meeting, Julie presented the data she had gathered and reported that she had gotten the same results during the two times she had repeated an experiment. However, in looking at Julie's PowerPoint slides showing results from experiment one and experiment two, Helen believes that the two are identical. When Helen confronts Julie about this, Julie insists that she had down two individual experiments and obtained identical results.
