Abstract

The article reports on the results of a study looking at how ethics is taught within the European Union Schools of Medicine. Twenty-five schools from eighteen EU countries responsed. Of these schools, twenty-one included an ethics module , and in eleven, the teaching of ethics was transversal. Overall, the mean time spent on teaching ethics in the schools surveyed was 44 hours. The authors conclude that while ethics instruction is now an integral part of the medical curriculum, there is a large variation in the time and methods used between schools.
