AbstractDrawing from his experience as the the research integrity officer a large university, the author discusses the eight cases of plagiarism he handled. Through these cases, he shows that in many cases initial appearances can be misleading, that policies for handling allegations of misconduct cannot cover every contingency, and that many cases can be resolved without having to resort to formal procedures.
