Abstract

This module addresses the complex interface of research and the media. The module discusses the special collaboration between scientists and media and the challenges both face in communicating science to the public at large. The module, which contains a number of essays and reflective questions and covers such issues as the importance of objectivity, accuracy, and honest disclosure in these types of communications, public policy issues connected with the communication of science, issues of communicating uncertainty, and includes a case study. The guide also includes some practical advice for researchers when talking to the media.
