Abstract

Alison Turner is a department manager at a commercial nuclear generating plant. She is also a member of the Plant Nuclear Safety Review Committee (PNSRC). A problem has come up with the heat exchangers, and she has been asked to vote on a plan that would allow the plant to stay open, though she has serious doubts as to the safety of the plant still running while this problem exists. She is worried that the chair of the committee will oppose any delay she may propose so more analysis can be done, as a negative result may require the plant to be shut down and repairs to be made. Includes numerical and ethical questions about the case.
