AbstractThe Affordable Care Act of 2010 allows employers to use more fiscal incentives and penalties to help keep their workforce healthier. Some companies have wellness programs that offer on-site fitness facilities or discounted memberships to gyms. Others favor the stick. CVS Caremark, a large drugstore chain, received some adverse publicity when it began requiring its employees to report their weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol or be forced to pay an annual penalty of $600.00. Plans like this allow companies to manage the increasing cost of healthcare, but where do we draw the line?
