Garrett F. is a children who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident at the age of 4 and required a personal attendant to be with him at school to help him with his health care needs. Up until 1993, Garrett's parents provided the personal attendant at school but when Garrett entered fifth grade, his parents insisted that the school district provide the attendant. The school refused, and so Garrett's parents challenged the school upon their decision at an administrative hearing to which they were entitled to under federal and state law. </style>
<notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Case from the 2000 National Ethics Bowl.
