They found that of the 280 RCTs, most provided no information on the race/ethnicity of participants. Relative to other trials, those funded by the National Institute of Health were more likely to report race/ethnicity data and to include nonwhite participants. The researchers concluded that minority groups are currently under-represented in clinical trials, and that ethnicity and race of research participants is also underreported, though the NIH examples shows that mandatory reporting policies may have a positive effect on both reporting and representation. </style>
<doi><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">10.1080/08989620490891412</style></doi><issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">3/4</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Article</style></work-type><accession-num><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">15902119</style></accession-num><notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Rochon, Paula 1; Email Address: paula.rochon@utoronto.ca; Mashari, Azad 2; Cohen, Ariel 2; Misra, Anjali 2; Laxer, Dara 2; Streiner, David 2; Clark, Jocalyn 3; Dergal, Julie 2; Gold, Jennifer 4; Affiliations: 1: Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, Departments of Medicine and Public Health Sciences, University of Toronto, Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences; 2: Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, Toronto, Ontario; 3: Department of Public Health Sciences and The Centre for Research in Women's Health, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; 4: Faculty of Law, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Issue Info: Jul2004, Vol. 11 Issue 3/4, p215; Thesaurus Term: RESEARCH; Subject Term: MINORITIES; Subject Term: ETHNIC groups; Subject Term: CLINICAL medicine; Subject Term: CLINICAL trials; Subject Term: MEDICINE; Subject Term: HUMAN experimentation in medicine; Author-Supplied Keyword: clinical trials; Author-Supplied Keyword: ethnicity; Author-Supplied Keyword: Key words; Author-Supplied Keyword: medical journals; Author-Supplied Keyword: minority groups; Author-Supplied Keyword: systematic review; NAICS/Industry Codes: 541712 Reseach and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Biotechnology); Number of Pages: 9p; Document Type: Article</style></notes></record></records></xml>
