However, the JIF may exhibit patterns that are skewed towards journals that publish high number of non-research items and short turnover research. In this study, the JIF computation of eight top ranked journals from four different subject categories was analyzed. The analysis reveals that most of the published items (&gt;65%) in the science disciplines were nonresearch items while fewer such items (&lt;22%) were observed in engineering-based journals. A weighted factor computation is introduced to compensate for the smaller journals and journals that publish longer turnover research. It is hoped that the approach can provide a comprehensive assessment of the quality of a journal regardless of the disciplinary field. </style>
<doi><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">10.1080/08989620802689516</style></doi><issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">1</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Article</style></work-type><accession-num><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">36649314</style></accession-num><notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Foo, Jong Yong Abdiel 1; Email Address: foo.jong.yong@sgh.com.sg; Affiliations: 1: Division of Research, Singapore General Hospital, Singapore and Biomedical Engineering Research Centre, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Issue Info: Jan2009, Vol. 16 Issue 1, p1; Subject Term: BIBLIOGRAPHY; Subject Term: PERIODICALS; Subject Term: TECHNICAL literature; Subject Term: SCIENTIFIC literature; Subject Term: LIBRARY materials; Author-Supplied Keyword: bibliographical database; Author-Supplied Keyword: citation; Author-Supplied Keyword: impact factor; Author-Supplied Keyword: indexing; Number of Pages: 12p; Illustrations: 4 Charts, 2 Graphs; Document Type: Article</style></notes></record></records></xml>
