First, the inconsistent goals of RCR education, and second, the unclear methods for fostering RCR education. The authors suggest that these problems can be solved by limiting the focus or RCR education to the following three goals, 1) empowering trainees to respond to the ethical challenges raised in the conduct of research, 2) increasing awareness of the purpose and value of ethical decision making as well as the roles and responsibilities of whistleblowers, and 3, fostering a positive attitude about promoting an environment that values RCR. The article also describes the RCR Education Committee (RCREC), a special interest group of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.</style></abstract><doi><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">10.1097/ACM.0b013e31812f77fe</style></doi></record></records></xml>
