This essay asks, for personnel who enroll subjects at a physical and organizational remove from the primary research team, whether reporting COI to an institutional review board or COI committee protects research integrity. After examining definitions of COI, regulations on COI, and rubrics for evaluating COI policies, the authors argue that requiring recruitment personnel who work at a distance from the primary research team to report potential COI protects neither research integrity nor human subjects. </style>
<doi><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">10.1080/08989621.2010.493096</style></doi><issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">4</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Article</style></work-type><accession-num><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">51882089</style></accession-num><notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Lynch, John 1; Email Address: john.lynch@uc.edu; Lindsell, Christopher J. 1; Affiliations: 1: Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.; Issue Info: Jul2010, Vol. 17 Issue 4, p211; Thesaurus Term: CONFLICT of interests; Thesaurus Term: RESEARCH; Subject Term: SCIENTISTS; Subject Term: ESSAY; Subject Term: HUMAN experimentation; Author-Supplied Keyword: conflict of interest; Author-Supplied Keyword: key personnel; Author-Supplied Keyword: scientific integrity; Author-Supplied Keyword: subject recruitment; Number of Pages: 12p; Document Type: Article</style></notes></record></records></xml>
