The author introduces us to the ethical environment as the 'the surrounding climate of ideas about how to live,' and argues that we can draw a number of illuminating analogies between our responsibility for the quality of the physical environment and our responsibility for the quality of the ethical environment. Therefore, values education can be seen as an important way we can ensure the quality of the ethical environment we live in by putting a positive value on diversity within that environment. This way of seeing the scope of values education also allows instructors to see the responsibilities they have in teaching ethics to their students. </style>
<notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Haydon, Graham 1; Email Address: G.Haydon@ioe.ac.uk; Affiliation: 1: University of London, U.K.; Source Info: Jun2004, Vol. 33 Issue 2, p115; Subject Term: MORAL education; Subject Term: VALUES; Subject Term: EDUCATION; Subject Term: ETHICS; Subject Term: MORAL development; Subject Term: PHILOSOPHY; NAICS/Industry Codes: 611699 All Other Miscellaneous Schools and Instruction; NAICS/Industry Codes: 611710 Educational Support Services; NAICS/Industry Codes: 923110 Administration of Education Programs; Number of Pages: 15p; Document Type: Article</style></notes></record></records></xml>
