From these findings, the authors discuss a theory of contextual listening and suggest that sources of resistance include the paucity of listening instruction in the engineering curriculum and curricular components that may devalue listening. Benefits of a listening intervention are described, and implications are discussed.</style>
<doi><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">10.1109/TPC.2009.2032383 </style></doi><issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">4</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Article</style></work-type><accession-num><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">45891938</style></accession-num><notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Leydens, Jon A. 1; Email Address: jleydens@mines.edu Lucena, Juan C. 1; Email Address: jlucena@mines.edu; Affiliation: 1: Division of Liberal Arts and International Studies, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO 80401-1887 USA; Source Info: Dec2009, Vol. 52 Issue 4, p359; Subject Term: LISTENING; Subject Term: ENGINEERING -- Study &amp; teaching; Subject Term: SUSTAINABLE development; Subject Term: COMMUNITY development; Subject Term: EDUCATION -- Curricula; Author-Supplied Keyword: Contextual listening; Author-Supplied Keyword: engineering curricula; Author-Supplied Keyword: humanitarian; Author-Supplied Keyword: listening; Author-Supplied Keyword: sustainable community development (SCD); NAICS/Industry Codes: 925120 Administration of Urban Planning and Community and Rural Development; NAICS/Industry Codes: 926110 Administration of General Economic Programs; Number of Pages: 17p; Document Type: Article</style></notes></record></records></xml>
