Pettifor does an excellent job of placing the task of code development within the context of international human rights and the question of universal moral principles. In this brief commentary, I focus on two dimensions of Pettifor's article that are narrower, more practical, but perhaps equally important to cross-national code development: the purpose and format of an ethics code for the profession of psychology. In addressing these two dimensions, I draw upon the latest revision of the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (APA, 2002; Fisher, 2003a).
