AbstractThe author criticizes the use of Kohlberg's moral stages in looking at how individuals develop their moral judgement. But looking at these stages in a certain way, they can be seen to plot a course of immoral judgement, marked by bias and manipulation, and not as a steady march toward justice. She uses the Defining Issues Test to gain a useful glimpse into the problems with Kohlberg's stages, and discusses how the both the stages and the DIT test can be converted in a way that turns their deficits into assets.
