AbstractWritten by a philosopher and an educational psychologist with a large amount of experience teaching engineering and science ethics classes, this essay combines and generalizes what they have learned about solving problems of curricular design, instruction, and assessment. The authors provide an extended commentary on one set of assignments that the philosopher has used over the past twenty years in an engineering ethics course. The assignment consists of having a student develop a case study based on what they have learned in class, and interview a professional engineer about their reaction to the case study and share their findings with the class.
