Abstract

The author looks at recent efforts to promote cooperation between universities and industry in Germany, and gives some recommendations on how to improve its current legal framework for regulating potential conflicts of interest resulting from university-industry cooperation. The author recommends that German develop a system that requires stringent procedural and material requirements and carefully weighs the individual researcher's right to academic freedom against the public demand for objectivity in research.
