AbstractThis article discusses the difference between professionals and ordinary employees and the special role professional codes of ethics play in the business environment. Professionals bring their own ethical standards and unique professional knowledge to a position, and the importance of managers understanding the role of professionals in business. Davis goes on to explore why 'good ethics" is not necessarily "good business", why there is no necessary connection between "good ethics" and a good of ethics, and why a company should not adopt a code of ethics unless it is willing to give up direct control of a good deal of employee conduct.
