AbstractIn 1992, The Danish Medical Research Council established a national committee on scientific dishonesty and charged it with handling cases of scientific misconduct and developing preventnative initiatives. The article discusses the experiences council handling twenty-four cases. The three key ares in which most accusations fell were in questions of authorship, rights and duties to use scientific data, and agreement at the initiation of joint studies. In response to dealing with these cases, the committee has issued guidelines of good practice to guide scientists facing ethical issues in these areas.
