AbstractCalifornia is looking to pass a law that would require that calves raised for veal, egg-laying hens, and pregnant pigs be confined only in ways that allow these animals to lie down, stand up, and fully extend the limbs and turn around freely. The law would set limits on the size of pens and cages for these animals. The class is divided up into groups and asked to present their side of the case to a panel of lawmakers.
