Introduction to Codes Compilation
PREFACE
IIT's Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions (CSEP) was founded in 1976 to promote education and scholarship on the professions, with special emphasis on the ethical and social responsibility issues associated with professional education and practice. To that end, CSEP pursues a variety of research, teaching and public program activities. In support of these programs the Center maintains a resource collection on the professions that serves the burgeoning informational needs of students, scholars, practitioners, and the public alike.
The collection contains printed materials covering a wide range of professional fields, with the types of items as varied as the kinds of information they convey. Included are monographs, bibliographies, professional directories, government reports, hearings and regulations, court decisions, journals, and newsletters, dissertations, unpublished papers, and conference proceedings. The collection is open to all and professional assistance is available. Visitors are welcome to make inquiries by mail or telephone.
As a special service, the collection houses an extensive inventory of statements on professional responsibility and freedom promulgated by government and other groups concerned with the rights and responsibilities of professionals. The documents take many forms, including, codes of ethics, advisory opinions, resolutions, policy statements and reflect such diverse perspectives as those of private practitioners, employed professionals, recipients of professional services, government bodies and so on. In the belief that these statements can serve useful educational and research purposes, CSEP publishes this COMPILATION of the items currently available, most of which can be obtained from the Center. Ordering information is given on the following page.
We welcome suggestions and copies of materials for inclusion, as well as corrections of any of the items currently included. All correspondence regarding the COMPILATION should be directed to the CSEP Librarian, Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions, Illinois Institute of Technology, Room 205, Hermann Hall . 3241 S. Federal Street, Chicago, Illinois 60616, (312) 567-6913, Fax: (312) 567-3016.
The Compilation is organized broadly according to the sources of the documents listed. These include I. Professional and Trade Associations; II. Business Organization; III. Government; and IV. Other. Each major category includes an alphabetical listing of the promulgating groups and institutions, each with its own numerical designation.
May of the documents have undergone one or more revisions, not all of which are included in the Center's resource collection. If a single item is identified as having been revised several times, then the Center has the version issued on the last date cited. In some cases, however, two or more revisions are listed independently, each with its own alphabetical designation. In those instances, the collection includes each version.
For many of the items listed the Center also has documents describing implementation and enforcement procedures. Information about specific items will be provided upon request.
Copies of most of the statements listed in the COMPILATION can be obtained from CSEP for a fee of 25 cents per page. The number of pages is given for each document. Copies can either be sent via regular mail for a shipping charge of $3.00 for domestic shipments of 100 pages or less, or can be converted into a PDF and sent to a email address for a conversion fee of $5.00 plus scanning costs per page. For domestic shipments of orders over 100 pages or international shipping, please contact CSEP Library for an estimate. When ordering, please provide the following information:
