Code of Ethics
The work of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers has become one of increasing importance with the growth of wealth of the United States. In order that dignity of their chosen profession may be maintained, it is the duty and should be the expressed wish of all Naval Architects and Marine Engineers to subscribe to and follow the Code of Ethics as laid down herein:

The Naval Architect and Marine Engineer will carry on his professional work in a spirit of fairness to employees and contractors, fidelity to clients and employers, loyalty to his country, and devotion to high ideals of courtesy and personal honor.

He will refrain from associating himself with, or allowing the use of his name, by an enterprise of questionable character.

He will advertise only in a dignified manner, being careful to avoid misleading statements.

He will regard as confidential any information obtained by him as to the business affairs and technical methods or processes of a client or employer.

He will inform a client or employer of any business connections, interests or affiliations, which might influence his judgment or impair the disinterested quality of his services.

He will refrain from using any improper or questionable methods in soliciting professional work.

An Architect will not falsely or maliciously injure, directly or indirectly, the professional reputation and prospects of business of a fellow architect. He will refrain from criticizing, condemning, or in any way belittling the work of his fellow Architects in his endeavor to secure professional work. He will not attempt to supplant another architect after definite steps have been taken by a client toward his employment; nor will he undertake a commission for which another has been previously employed until he has determined that the original relation has been fairly and properly terminated.

He will refuse to pay in any manner, direct or otherwise, commissions to Captains, Engineers, Stewards or other employees of possible clients for the purpose of influencing them in his favor.

He will accept compensation, financial or otherwise, for a particular service, from one source only except with the full knowledge and consent of all interested parties.

He will not use unfair means to win professional advancement or to injure the chance of another Naval Architect and Marine Engineer to secure and hold employment.

He will cooperate in advancing the profession of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering by exchanging general information and experience with his fellow Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and students, and also by contributing to the work of technical societies, schools of applied science, and the technical press.

He will interest himself in the public welfare, in behalf of which he will be ready to apply his special knowledge, skill and training for the use and benefit of mankind.
Applications for membership shall contain: a statement of the applicant's agreement to conduct his business in accordance with the Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Relations with the Public, Clients, Brokers and Yacht Yards; a resume of the applicant's business activities; and, in the case of Company applicants, a resume of the organization.
