National Catholic Conference for Seafarers Code of Ethics
Those called to Port Ministry share a conviction and commitment to minister in the name of the Church. This ministry is characterized by basic respect for the worth and dignity of all persons and is concerned with a deep sense of social justice. The acceptance and maintenance of high moral standards of professional competence and moral conduct is the responsibility of all members of the National Catholic Conference for Seafarers.
1. NCCS members will deal with others in a way that respects their dignity as persons and their freedom of conscience without compromising their own beliefs.
2. NCCS members will respect the confidentiality demanded in view
of the privileged relationship they have with the persons being
served.
3. NCCS members will take seriously the obligation to update themselves
professionally on a regular basis in the areas of theology, personal
competence and personal spiritual development.
4.
NCCS members will approach the religious faiths of seafarers with
respect and sensitivity and avoid imposing their own religious
convictions on them.
5. NCCS members will promote and participate, when necessary,
in an interdisciplinary and ecumenical approach to Port Ministry.
6. NCCS members shall not discriminate against persons in regard
to race, creed, age, sex or physical ability.
