Code of Professional Conduct
As a food technologist I believe that sound professional relationships are built upon integrity, dignity, and mutual respect. I recognize my responsibilities to the public, to students, colleagues, associates and to my employer to be as follows.
I shall strive for highest performance, for raising professional standards, improving services, and providing a working climate which encourages sound, considered judgment and achieves conditions which attract to the profession only persons of high qualifications and integrity.
In the practice of my profession, I shall avoid unethical exploration of my professional status and refrain from untrue., misleading or exaggerated representations.
I shall be an exponent of the scientific method.
I shall give just recognition to the work of others without distortion or discrimination
I shall assume a personal responsibility for improved understanding of food technology avoiding premature, false or exaggerated statements.
I shall discourage enterprises or practices inimical to the public interest or welfare.
I shall apply for, accept, or assign position and responsibilities on the basis of professional and or academic preparation. I shall represent my professional qualifications honestly and shall not knowingly withhold pertinent information.
I shall adhere to the terms of my employment and shall use the time granted me for the purpose intended. I shall keep in confidence such proprietary information is obtained in the course of my professional services unless disclosure is properly authorized or required by duly constituted legal authorities.
I shall strive to protect my employer from unjust financial, legal or personal injury and from unjust embarrassment or disparagements.
I shall not use my position for private gain to the possible detriment of my employer. I shall not accept gifts, favors, or gratuities that might impart my professional judgment nor shall I use coercive means, or offer gifts, or promise special treatment, or favor in order to influence professional decisions or to obtain special advantage.
